I have more than 15 years programming experience working on gender and women’s Human Rights issues in Nigeria and at the global level. I am currently a National Expert on Gender on the Democratic Governance for Development Project and before then worked for EDI for Gender Justice (EDIJ) and BAOBAB for Women’s Human Rights. In addition to my programming experience, I have close to 3 years’ experience in journalism having practiced as a full time journalist before in both print and electronic media in Nigeria.

On women’s political participation, part of my mandate as a gender expert on the DGD project is to ensure the inclusive participation of women in the democratic process of Nigeria. Since 2012, I have worked closely with women at the grassroots and policy level on addressing the challenges that face women in their drive towards active political participation and facilitated support to women on their capacity development to improve their chances of winning elections. Mentorship of young vibrant females across Nigeria and making the necessary linkages to global development was also a major priority to me. I coordinated the support of the mentorship of over 600 young women on political participation. Networks of women politicians were also strengthened across political parties’ lines. In addition, I worked extensively with the Electoral Management Body (EMB) of Nigeria on facilitating the process for a gender responsive electoral process which culminated in the finalisation of an Institutional Gender Policy for the EMB, the INEC Gender Policy, 2014.

Before now, I participated in the test run of manuals on women’s political participation, Leading to Action developed by the Women’s Learning Partnership for Rights, Development and Peace, based in Maryland, United States.  I facilitated political participation institute for women across the West Africa Sub region for close to 5 years in countries such as Nigeria, Togo, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

My contact with the New Tactics Project has been most productive over the years starting with the development of the Tactical Notebook on Using Mock Tribunals to advance change. The notebook is one of the several Tactical Note books developed with support from the New Tactics Project. I am very happy to have worked on this note book. I have also enjoyed the tremendous usefulness of the other resourceful tactical notebooks on the track record of the New Tactics Project of the Centre for Victims of Torture.
